Police spokesman says three people were shot, including the woman who died, as the victim was being moved from a house party to another
Police have identified the woman who was shot dead while being transported from a house party to a hospital on Saturday.
Toronto police spokesman Meaghan Gray said on Sunday that a 32-year-old woman died as a result of the attack. She did not provide details on the age or identity of the victim.
A 35-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were also shot during the incident on the city’s east side. One of the men was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, while the other was taken to hospital.
Gray said that police were investigating the shooting, but would not comment on the possible motive.
“We don’t want to release information in the early stages of the investigation,” she said. “People don’t want to have information out there until there’s been a finality given.”
Earlier on Sunday, Ontario’s premier, Kathleen Wynne, expressed her condolences to the family of the victim.
“Just moments ago, I spoke with the family of the woman who was killed and I offer my deepest condolences,” she said in a statement. “This is a sad day for Toronto and we cannot allow the acts of violence and senseless crime that we’ve seen to define our city.”
